July 3rd '08 - Rock Report
Pearl Jam raised $3 million for the poverty fighting Robin Hood Foundation at a private show at the Beacon Theater in New York the other night... In addition to their own songs they covered Bob Dylan, Neil Young and ended with their cover of The Who's "Baba O'Riley"..Eddie will get ready for his solo tour which comes to The Warner Theater on August 16th and 17th and Pearl Jam will begin to work on their next studio album.
and The Flaming Lips will offer up a few songs for the sequel to the documentary Okie Noodling... The doc is about a a group of rural Oklahoman fisherman that fish only using their hands... Okie Noodling II will be out on DVD on July 14th. Meanwhile you can catch the lips at the VH1 Who Tribute on July 17th.
STP frontman Scott Weiland will release a solo album on October 7th....Scott says it will definitely be a sonic journey like the first album was but it will be a little bit more focused since he's not on a narcotic journey like he was on the last one...You'll see him with STP on August 10th at Virgin Fest.
The rest of The Grateful Dead say they will reunite for Obama! Mickey Hart says they are so into the race and Barack and they'll be happy to get on stage again if it will help Barack win the presidency.

The line up of Guitar Hero: World tour is shaping up...but which artists are on it? A consumer survey was leaked and the top artists are Korn, System of a Down, Interpol and Tool...The survey says the game will feature 85 songs...but the lineup has yet to be concerned.
Sevendust will perform for troops in Germany, Kuwait and Afghanistan....guitarist Clint Lowery says "to be able to go over there and experience this will be life-changing for them as a band. He personally doesn't know what he feels about the war but he supports the men and women over there doing their jobs 110%."
Rage Against The Machine frontman Zach de la Rocha has a new project with drummer Jon Theodore and will release One Day As A Lion on July 22. They describe it as "a defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It's a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask." Gotta love Zach..
Ben Moody left Evanescence back in '03 but much to Amy Lee's disappointment has managed to keep his career going by writing and producing for up and coming artists like Daughtry and Kelli Clarkson. Now he's starting his very own record label FNR Records.

Rage guitarist Tom Morello is ready to release his next solo album...Tom says his goal was to capture the energy and emotion of The Nightwatchman live shows...You can also listen for guest appearances by Shooter Jennings and Serj Tankian....you will be able to pick up The Fabled City Sept. 30
Bon Jovi is going to do a free concert in Central Park on July 12. The show is supposed to be the kick off to the MLB All-Star game
and Travis Barker is doing drums for The Game on a track called 'Dope Boys' ...Travis says The Game is super talented, and he's glad he could help him out. ...You can hear Travis when The Game's new album 'L.A.X.' hits on August 26th.

GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna covered Metallica in a recent solo show ...Sully says that his first solo shows was "extremely nerve-wracking," and he says hasn't been that nervous since he was 10 at a talent show...you can watch him do " Nothing Else Matters " on my page at dc101.com.

Metallica has picked a release date...we have been hearing for awhile that you'll be able to pick up the new album "Death Magnetic" sometime in September but now we hear that it will be September 16th and the album includes 10 or 11 tracks.

The blogger who leaked GnRs Chinese Democracy is now being investigated after being ambushed by the FBI....Kevin Skwerl says after agents questioned him at his office he got a call from the GnR camp to see if he would go without a fight which is exactly what he did.
and speaking of blogs, Kanye West took to his after being booed and criticized for being so late at Bonnaroo...Kanye says he's sick of negative people and blames the incompetence of Bonnaroo Organizers as well as Pearl Jam for ending an hour late which made him even more late.
Barack Obama has his iPod locked and loaded and Rolling Stone magazine gives you a glimpse of the presidential candidate's musical taste in their next issue...Obama digs The Stones, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder and The Boss to name a few...no word on what you'll find on McCain's...
and Bryan Adams is BACK! Fall Out Boy Fans...Pete Wentz is talkin' about their next record and says that the songs are guitar riff heavy like ACDC or the White Stripes...Pete also said that they hope to start recording this summer to have an album in stores before the end of the year.

Rob Zombie is a busy guy! He has posted art from his next movie "Tyrannosaurus Rex" on the flick's MySpace page which is supposed to be about an ex-wrestler who must battle a twisted gang of bikers, he has an animated movie coming out called "The Haunted World of Superbeasto", he is working on another solo album and he has put a "pinhead" mask on eBay, with a starting bid of $500. The mask appeared in the video for the White Zombie song "Electric Head Pt. 2 (The Ecstasy)". The prop comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Rob but you better get on it because the bidding ends today.

Chinese Democracy leaked and word has it, it"s not good. The leak included 9 songs and naturally all were pulled at the request of Guns N' Roses. Meanwhile, Just to give you some perspective, production on 'Chinese Democracy', which was last scheduled for release in March 07, originally began in 1994 and has cost Axl Rose a reported $13million.
Phish Reunion rumors are kicking up again....word has it that they will and they plan on getting into the studio with producer Steve Lillywhite sometime soon.
Pumpkins fans, rumor has it that Billy Corgan is planning to do a pre-gish/gish box set and tour. Gish was the band's debut album....but the big question is if they do a Gish Tour, will he get James and D'arcy on it?
Reps for the Beatles are in talks to make a game inspired by the band....Activision and MTV Games, who make Guitar Hero and Rock Band, both want to use the band's songs in an upcoming title. The deal, which obviously will be worth millions should be done in a couple of weeks...

Rage Against The Machine might crash presidential conventions later on this summer...Tom Morello says that there is a possibility that they will play at demonstrations surrounding the conventions of both republicans and democrats... if you remember Rage staged a protest concert back in 2000 when democrats gave their nod to Al Gore
Motley Crue wants MTV out of their biopic....The Crue made a deal with MTV films a couple of years ago to start producing a movie based on their best selling autobiography The Dirt but it still hasn't happened. Nikki Sixx says now they are just trying to get MTV out of the way so they can finally get the flick going. Meanwhile, you can catch The Crue at Cruefest Sunday July 13th.
New Staind out in August...their next album is called "The Illusion of Progress." Staind frontman Aaron Lewis says "It's a departure from the last record and there is a lot more experimentation with vintage instruments and vintage amps." You can pick up "The Illusion of Progress" on August 19th.
